The Problem
Fishmeal – As the common protein source for current agri-feed products that supply Fish, Poultry and Pig farms; fish meal is becoming increasingly expensive and has a questionable environmental reputation.
Food Waste – The massive amount of food that is simply lost through being discarded. It has been estimated by some to be up to 30% of the nutrition production system.
Demand Pressure – As the worlds growing population seeks more nutrition and protein, the negative impact on our natural environment is expected to increase. The social & public acceptance of subtractive industries that degrade our biosphere, especially oceans, is disappearing fast.
Solution
Our sustainable bio-tech process seeks to eliminate waste and reduce water use, displace traditional protein sources, increase total yield and operate at a carbon negative ratio. Proteina Ltd. uses Insect Larvae to create protein meal, where the rapidly grown larvae are raised on recycled commercial food waste streams, previously headed for landfill disposal.
Operating in the Thailand tropics allows our production to naturally occur year round without requiring any expensive climatic control inputs.
In this way Proteina Ltd. achieves considerable economic and environmental benefits with the solid market advantages – We pass this on to the end users through the products ‘green credentials’ and lower price point.
